Concrete patio installation in Grand Rapids Michigan

Transform Your Backyard Into a Living Space

A concrete patio is one of the best ways to extend your home’s livable space. Durable, low-maintenance, and fully customizable, a well-built patio becomes the foundation for outdoor entertaining, relaxing, and family time. Pro Concrete Services designs and builds patios in all shapes, sizes, and finishes — from simple broom-finish slabs to decorative stamped concrete that mimics stone or brick.

Every patio starts with proper drainage planning. Michigan’s wet springs and freeze-thaw winters can destroy a poorly graded patio in just a few seasons. We make sure water moves away from your home’s foundation on every project.

What’s Included in Every Patio Project

  • Drainage and grade planning — Slope designed to move water away from your foundation
  • Excavation and compacted subbase — Proper base depth for long-term stability
  • Reinforced concrete pour — Wire mesh or rebar based on patio size and use
  • Custom shape and size — Square, rectangular, curved, or freeform to fit your yard
  • Finish of your choice — Broom, smooth, stamped, or exposed aggregate
  • Control joints and edge detailing — Clean edges and properly placed joints for long-term performance
  • Full cleanup and yard restoration

How Your Patio Gets Built

  1. Free estimate and design consultation — We discuss shape, size, finish options, and drainage before providing a written estimate
  2. Scheduling — Typical patios completed in 1 to 3 days depending on size
  3. Excavation and base prep — Area excavated, graded for drainage, and subbase compacted
  4. Forms set and concrete poured — Forms define the shape. Concrete poured and finished to your specification
  5. Curing period — Light foot traffic after 48 hours. Full use after 7 days
  6. Final walkthrough — Jose reviews the finished patio with you before the job is complete

Why a Concrete Patio

  • Outlasts wood decks and pavers — No rotting, shifting, or weed growth between joints
  • Low maintenance — Occasional sealing is all it needs to stay looking great
  • Fully customizable — Any shape, size, and finish to match your home and yard
  • Handles Michigan weather — Properly installed concrete withstands freeze-thaw cycles for decades
  • Increases home value — Outdoor living spaces are a top feature for home buyers

How thick should a concrete patio be?

For a standard residential patio with foot traffic only, 4 inches is sufficient. If you plan to drive a vehicle onto the patio or place very heavy objects like a hot tub, we recommend 5 to 6 inches with additional reinforcement.

How do I keep my concrete patio from cracking?

Cracking is prevented by three things - a properly compacted subbase, correctly placed control joints, and the right concrete mix. We handle all three on every project. Some hairline cracking over time is normal in any concrete slab, but structural cracking that affects appearance or function is a sign of poor installation.

Can I add a patio next to my existing house foundation?

Yes, but drainage is critical. The patio must slope away from your foundation to prevent water from pooling against the house. We evaluate grade and drainage on every patio project before work begins.

What finish options are available for patios?

We offer broom finish, smooth finish, stamped concrete in dozens of patterns, and exposed aggregate. Stamped concrete is the most popular patio upgrade - it gives you the look of stone or brick at a lower cost than natural materials.

How long does a concrete patio last?

A well-built concrete patio lasts 25 to 50 years with minimal maintenance. Sealing every 2 to 3 years helps protect the surface and maintain appearance, especially for stamped or decorative finishes.
